Some of the practices of the Reformed tradition that nurture personal piety are: Contemplation of God Mortification Self-examination Scripture meditation Devotions, personal and family Psalm singing Sabbath observance Obedience in life Some practices for spiritual growth that are compatible with the Reformed tradition: Centering Prayer Lectio Divina Spiritual Direction Contemplative living Spiritual practices open a person to the transforming work of Christ We need time for reflection and self-examination to develop discernment. We need time for prayer and meditation to deepen our relationship with God. For spiritual leadership we need to establish a practice of daily prayer to be attuned to the Spirit. That starts with our discernment of the movements of God within us. As we do that we become people who can also help others in discernment. Our spiritual practices are ways of "fine-tuning" our hearts and minds to the promptings of the Spirit. Listening prayer, contemplative prayer, journaling to note your sense of God's moving in you, examen questions to help you notice, are some of the practices that will help you in discernment. For me paying attention to the inner feelings, the center where the Spirit dwells in me, is the most important. That takes some conscious effort to develop.
